NEW PROGRAMME FOR GOVT ALREADY BAD FOR ENVIRONMENTCORK EAST Labour TD Seán Sherlock has slated the new Programme for Government as bad for the environment - given the amount of hot air emitted by the Green Party leadership last Saturday. "We are told that bovine waste is a strong producer of methane, and there was a strong smell of it emanating from the RDS last Saturday," said Deputy Sherlock. "People in rural Ireland will know well what I mean, and they will also be only too aware that the provisions made in this vacuous Programme for Government will do nothing for their employment prospects.
"It is no surprise to me that Minister Gormley sought to push this on his party membership in the rushed manner we saw at the weekend - any sort of composed assessment of this Programme for Government shows it does not hold up to scrutiny.
"There are vague references to a ‘Rural Development Programme' that will supposedly create 12,000 jobs but no significant detail on how these jobs will be created, what regions will benefit and what sectors will produce this employment.
"If Minister Gormley can come up with this figure of 12,000 jobs he should be able to qualify this quantity. This is characteristically vague of the Green Party; high on aspiration; short on detail. Despite the smell, I wont be holding my breath," concluded Deputy Sherlock. » MINISTER ENCOURAGES JUNIOR CERT STUDENTS TO CONTINUE THEIR STUDIES IN SCIENCE AND HIGHER LEVEL MATHS
