SHERLOCK DEDICATED TO KEEPING NORTH CORK ON IDA AGENDA

CORK EAST Labour TD Seán Sherlock has pledged his commitment to keeping North Cork on the Government's agenda following communication with Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Mary Coughlan on the issue of the vacant IDA site in Fermoy. In a Parliamentary reply to Deputy Sherlock, Minister Coughlan said that ‘although the Agency has received planning permission for an advanced technology unit on the Fermoy Business and Technology Park, it has been decided, in view of the current budgetary situation, to postpone delivery of all such new units for the time being.'
Deputy Sherlock said that while budgetary restrictions were understandable in the current climate, the news is disappointing for Fermoy.

"The fact remains that the site continues to be a white elephant in the town which is obviously very disappointing. I will continue to lobby both the Department for Enterprise, Trade and Employment and the IDA to ensure that the site remains on their radar.

"What is important now is that if and when funding does become available to the IDA for the development of units, North Cork is on the top of that list to ensure that the best companies can come to the region," Deputy Sherlock concluded.
