SHERLOCK WELCOMES EXTRA ALARMS FOR OLDER FERMOY RESIDENTS
CORK EAST TD Seán Sherlock has welcomed the allocation of extra funding to Fermoy Neighbourhood Watch which will go directly towards putting in place monitoring alarms for older residents in the area.
Deputy Sherlock had made representations on behalf of Fermoy Neighbourhood Watch following the review of the funding for the scheme by the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.
"I am delighted that Fermoy Neighbourhood Watch will be given funding for this essential scheme. Having put a Parliamentary Question on the issue to Minister Eamon O'Cuiv, his department have agreed to fund a further 15 alarms for the group this year. "As the days get shorter coming into winter it is important to give older people in our community this extra reassurance. I want to also take this opportunity to congratulate Fermoy Neighbourhood Watch on their work so far, and I would encourage people in the town and wider vicinity to engage with the group in the interests of the Fermoy community," concluded Deputy Sherlock. Fermoy Neighbourhood Watch Chairman Joe Tobin said that the funding secured through Deputy Sherlock's representations has more than halved the waiting list for the monitored alarms. Mr Tobin said that the waiting list for the monitored alarms in the Fermoy area now stood at just ten following the latest allocation. |
