CORK EAST Labour TD Seán Sherlock has accused Bus Eireann of 'ignoring its duty to the public' in its decision to close the Dungarvan-Mallow section of the 366 route.

"Following my representations in the Dáil I received further correspondence from management at Bus Eireann which cited the route's turnover as cause to cut the service."I would argue that the number of calls my office has received from concerned commuters is reason to protect the service. As the last day the 366 serviced North Cork approached on February 28 I had anxious commuters who availed of the service asking what they can do to get from A to B without the bus."As a company that receives subsidies from the State, Bus Eireann ultimately has a duty to serve the taxpayers of the country. Many retired people, who worked their entire lives and made a significant contribution to our country, are now in turn failed by the same society they gave so much to."What I am proposing is a compromise whereby Bus Eireann scale back the 366 route to once a week but preserve the length of the route and the towns and villages it serves."
