NO EXCUSES FOR LACK OF ACTION ON N72 AND N73 – SHERLOCK
LABOUR TD Seán Sherlock believes the Government and the NRA have run out of excuses to ignore the deplorable conditions of N72 and N73.
"The latest line spun by the NRA is that a feasibility study must be carried out on the routes. I would like to know what good the feasibility study carried out in 2006 did for the prospects of remedial work on the roads in question."That report was kicked to touch, as have requests to address the dire conditions of these routes. "Three years ago a survey, by the European Road Assessment Programme (EURORAP), identified the stretch of road on the N72 between Castletownroche and Fermoy as being one of the "ten most dangerous roads in the Republic of Ireland."Despite that we have yet to see any significant remedial works on that route, or the N73."I have asked the Minister for Transport to prioritise these routes for funding for immediate feasibility studies, and will seek an explanation from the NRA as to why the 2006 report was ignored."I am committed to campaigning on this serious issue, as I have done in both my previous capacity as a Councillor and now as a TD. These busy routes are death-traps and are in urgent need of significant investment.
