Will the real Ned O'Keeffe please stand up?"It is with great pride that I support my Minister, Deputy Brian Lenihan, in introducing this wonderful and badly needed rescue of the economy, property developers and the banking system." - Ned O'Keeffe TD, 23 September 2009, Second Stage Dáil Debate on the National Asset Management Agency.
"There is a bright future for what we are doing because there will always be better days in the economy. Dublin, Cork and many large towns will not go wrong, but there are land banks in villages and small towns that must be rescued. NAMA will be a profitable organisation. It is an innovative measure and, in two or three years time, will make an unexpected return to the Exchequer." - Ned O'Keeffe TD, 23 September 2009, Second Stage Dáil Debate on the National Asset Management Agency.
"It is important that small shareholders be looked after. I am a shareholder in both of the banks in question." - Ned O'Keeffe TD, 23 September 2009, Second Stage Dáil Debate on the National Asset Management Agency.
"I'm saying Brian Lenihan's plan wont work and it could destroy our whole banking system" - Ned O'Keeffe TD, 29 March 2010, RTÉ Radio News at One.
"I am a member of the Fianna Fáil Party and I will vote with the Party as I have taken a pledge on that and I will honour that always" - Ned O'Keeffe TD, 29 March 2010, RTÉ Radio News at One.
Cork East Labour TD Seán Sherlock has challenged Fianna Fáil Deputy, Ned O'Keeffe, to 'put his vote where his mouth is' in light of his u-turn on the government's banking policy."Once again we see Ned O'Keeffe trying to run with the hare and hunt with the hounds in his comments on Government policy."I think it is time that Deputy O'Keeffe, and other notable Fianna Fáil backbenchers who come out against the government put up or shut up."These TDs want to have the best of both worlds by appearing to be in Fianna Fáil when it is popular and against the party when it suits their re-election prospects."Ned O'Keeffe's admission that he will actively go against his own judgement because of misplaced party loyalty is an insult to the voters of Cork East."The last thing this country needs is political double speak, where TDs say one thing and do another."In light of his comments that I have highlighted, I think it is time Ned O'Keeffe came clean with his electorate as to who comes first - Fianna Fáil or the people of Cork East.
