PASSENGERS MAKE CASE FOR RETENTION OF DONERAILE BUS SERVICEMEMBERS of the Doneraile community travelled to Cork last week to make their case to Bus Eireann for the retention of the 242 bus route ( Doneraile - Mallow - Cork) which in danger of being axed
A cross section of users of the service hailing from Doneraile, Rathduff, Rathpeacon, Lisduff and Mallow, together with Cork East Labour party TD Seán Sherlock met with Bus Eireann Manager, Joe Fitzgerald on Friday who they presented with a petition of 79 signatures calling for the service to be retained.
"The 79 people who signed the petition are all users of this bus service so it is certainly not a case of there being insufficient passenger numbers. Most of them are of pensionable age and have no other means of travel. They rely heavily on this route to access basic services and if this bus route were to go it would leave them in limbo," . "The passengers are willing to see a reduction in the timetable of this route as long as they are left with some level of service. They made a very strong case to Mr Fitzgerald who has given a commitment to examine their proposals and I am hopeful that some kind of compromise can be found to ensure this service is retained," |
