CLARIFICATION NEEDED ON FLOOD RELIEF PROJECTS

DEPUTY Seán Sherlock has described plans to remove the weir in Fermoy as "ridiculous" in light of moves by the government to cut public spending.

Deputy Seán Sherlock has described plans to remove the weir in Fermoy as "ridiculous" in light of moves by the government to cut public spending.

He has also called for clarification on the future of both the Fermoy and Mallow Flood Relief Projects.

"The minister needs to come out and confirm whether or not funding will be available to allow these schemes to proceed. The proposal to remove Fermoy weir also has to be reconsidered. It is ridiculous to spend public money on such an extravagance when it could be spent on more necessary projects," he said.

Deputy Sherlock said he will be raising these issues with the relevant minister when the Dáil reconvenes next week.

"The Fermoy Flood plan has been put on hold for far too long despite promise after promise that it was on its way. I will be asking the Minister how many more incidents of flooding the people of Fermoy are expected to endure before a solution is finally put in place," he added.
