CARROLL EXAMINERSHIP LEAVES CLOUD OF UNCERTAINTY OVER MALLOW SUGAR SITECork East Labour TD Seán Sherlock has said Greencore must provide some clarification as to its intentions for the former Sugar Factory site in Mallow. This follows news that the majority shareholder plans to sell assets to generate the cash to save large parts of his other businesses "The company needs to make a statement on what consequences this situation will have on any future plans. This is a prime development site which has been sitting idle for far too long. The sugar plant was dismantled in 2006 and there has been no real effort to redevelop the site. "While we may be in difficult economic times presently, this will not always be the case. I believe there have been many missed opportunities when it comes to the site at Mallow West. This situation with Liam Carroll - who owns a 29% share in the company - now casts a further cloud of uncertainty over its future. Greencore management need to be straight with the people of Mallow by stating its intentions. "People in North Cork want to see the site being developed and there is major scope to develop a number of green energy projects there. If Greencore has plans then I am certain that the community would support them if they were made public." » MINISTER ENCOURAGES JUNIOR CERT STUDENTS TO CONTINUE THEIR STUDIES IN SCIENCE AND HIGHER LEVEL MATHS
